Montrose Golf Links has released details of its new season ticket categories.
Following an assessment of its membership, the organisation has condensed the categories from eight down to five.
This came at the same time as the announcement of its season ticket prices for the 2021 season (see below).
The adult category will now include all adults who are 24 years old or over, with reductions for young adults who are between 18 and 23 years old and also young people under 18 years old.
A new initiative to encourage young people to try the sport is a free season ticket for under-18s if their parent or grandparent is a season ticket holder. A five percent discount is also on offer to couples buying their season tickets together.
There is also the introduction of a six-day ticket for the championship 1562 course, covering Sunday to Friday.
Realignment
“Following an assessment of Montrose Golf Links’ business model, we have realigned both the categories and the price structure,” said Jeff King, a member of the organisation’s management team.
“The Links are a part of Scottish golf history, and part of the local community.
“These beautiful links courses put Montrose on the map, and are highly regarded by professionals and amateurs alike.
“The 2021 prices do represent a significant increase after several years of minimal rises.
“We are limiting the increases for our Broomfield course, and are also keeping the price rises for young people minimal as providing access to golf for all is one of the most important priorities for us.
“However, we firmly believe the new prices are a fairer reflection of the year-round access available for members to two stunning links courses.
“This is a regrettable but necessary step as Montrose Golf Links works to put the business on a sound financial footing and secure a sustainable future for golf in the town.”
Subscription notices will be sent out to current members in early January. The renewal date has moved to 1 February 2021. This is a change in an administrative date and does not affect the term of a season ticket, which will continue to run until the end of March each year.
There is an option to pay monthly by direct debit, as well to pay in four interest-free instalments.

That’s an absolute disgrace to put the green fees up by over £120 a yr. I will seriously be giving it great thought about renewing my membership. The links trust should be ashamed of themselves treating its members this way. I think you should all resign.
Can you please clarify if the new 2021 5 day 1562 membership includes 7 days on the Broomfield as per this year or I would need to get the 7 day 1562 ticket
Any ticket purchased for the 1562 Course includes 7 days on the Broomfield Course.
Prices in the table (1562 /Broomfield) are they a combination ticket for both courses? And why are Broomfield tickets @ the price they are considering the very poor condition of the course.

Why is there no senior tickets this year.
Totally shocked by this, honestly can’t see how this is going to work. The majority will not go for this especially seniors. I have been a member for over 30 years but this season unfortunately could be my last. Totally gutted by this announcement.
Confirm definition of season. Will winter season vary from full season?
The golfing season will continue to run from the start of April to October and then winter from November to March.
The deadline for payment is set at 01/02/2021. However the current season ticket runs to 31st Mar, ’21 that’s a difference of two months, why would we be expected to pay for these two months twice?
The current 2020/21ticket is however valid until the 31st March 2021. Your 2021/22 ticket will be valid from the 1st April 2021 to the 31st March 2022.

I paid my season ticket in March 2020 this ticket is valid until March 31st 2921 do I understand that along with losing out on most of the summer months I an know going to lose two months of 2020 season has this realy been thought out.

To address this recurring cashflow shortfall, we had to decide between imposing a levy and bringing the annual payment date forward.
Moving the annual season ticket payment date to February, instead of a one-off levy of around £100 – which would have been payable in the autumn – seemed the lesser of two evils.
We are therefore asking Season Ticket Holders to pay their fees, if they can, by the 1st February 2021. The current 2020/21ticket is however valid until the 31st March 2021.
I have been a season ticket holder for 27 years but will now be seriously considering my position with playing golf going forward , the price increase is a disgrace and no category for old age oensioners .
My season is from 1 April to 31 March 2021 why is the payment date now 1st February this will mean I will lose 3 mouths of my last year’s golf season

There appears to be no Senior fee this year. Are you suggesting we count for nothing. Considering the years some people ave been members and paying subs seems to me that they are penalized for the shortfall
What happens if we don’t pay till the end of are current season ticket which goes till the 31st March 2021?
What has happened to the Senior rates. Are we being penalized for the shortfall Some of the members have played the course for many years and paid their dues. so why the change.. It gets more difficult to pay the fees as you get older, some reliant on pensions only.
Why has it taken comments from members to clarify that any 1562ticket covers 7 days on Broomfield. And the deadline for payment is only a recommendation and current ticket covers till 31stMarch . Why was this not made clear at the beginning instead of upsetting a lot of members please change the wording and try and win the trust of members.
Given your comment for the new increases and payment on 1st February 2021 due to lack of funds for Montrose Golf Links Ltd to survive through to April, it does raise a couple of questions. My membership is paid in full to April 2021, Therefore as previously indicated I can Golf till regardless of payment in February. Is this correct? But what happens the following season will the fees return to normal:- April to April or are we now only paying for a 10 month ticket and will it then be in the futureFebruary to February ?

There seems to be a reply to most of the questions asked, but no mention of the deletion of the Seniors group. Why is there no reason given.

(5 year) plans to ensure the Montrose Golf Links will be financial viable as to assure the membership that they will not have to incur another large percentage rise of their fees in these periods. Thank you
There has been no reply to the question of Senior Fees. So I ask the question again. Is there to be no Senior rate of fees for the coming year.
It would make financial sense for the Caledonian club to amalgamate with the Royal and Mercantile (or visa versa) and then have only one clubhouse, one committee and one set of office and catering staff. Maintaining the status quo may result in having no golf course for anyone to play on. Maintaining historical entrenched positions is lightly to impede a healthy future for golf in Montrose. Come on Ladies and Gents. lets just do it!
