David joined Montrose Golf Links at the start of 2022, and is enjoying the challenge of being general manager at the links. With over 15 years of experience working in the golf industry, and a strong background in merchandising and retail, David is proud to guide Montrose Golf Links into a new era.

Jason Boyd

PGA Golf Professional

Jason Boyd is the Head PGA Accredited Golf Professional and Callaway Golf Ambassador at Montrose Golf Links. With his 25+ years of experience as a golf professional, Jason enjoys providing his expertise to help others to develop their skills and improve their technique. Alongside this, Jason is the Chairman of the Scottish Region PGA and offers a well-stocked professional shop at our links.



Sean Logue has worked his way from the grassroots to help run and maintain the Links' shop - not only that, he assists on the green too, providing guidance and tutorage beside Jason and David. A valued member of the team, you'll find him golfing his free time away!

Our history

Montrose Golf Links is established, becoming the site of the fifth oldest golf course globally, offering a golfing experience rich in history and natural beauty.

Montrose's first Golf Club is established, laying the foundation for the preservation of the links for future generations.
Late 19th Century
Historic matches between golfing legends, Old Tom Morris and Bob Dow, take place on the original golfing ground at Montrose Links.
The town council decides to preserve the East Links area for leisure and commercial development, leading to the relocation of golf holes to the North and East.
Harry Colt designs the Broomfield Course at Montrose.
Harry Colt finalises the layout of the iconic 1562 course, making effective use of the natural dunes within the landscape.
The 2nd Hole of the 1562 Course is realigned by Martin Hawtree in response to coastal erosion.
Present Day
Montrose Caledonia and Royal Montrose Mercantile Golf Club, in association with Angus Council, manage Montrose Golf Links, welcoming visitors from around the world to play on the historic links.


At Montrose Golf Links, we take sustainability seriously. With coastal erosion set to have a significant impact on our links’ future, we want to take proactive measures to protect our golf courses and local community for future generations.

We are proud that our renowned 1562 is a GEO Certified Golf Course in recognition of our unwavering commitment to the environment and social responsibility.
