Important Announcement

Like many businesses Montrose Golf Links Ltd has found itself in some troubling times financially over recent years and at times it has been difficult to see a clear light at the end of the tunnel however we want to write to you today to reassure you as our customer that we are committed to fighting back from this pandemic and we have been working hard in the background to establish the best way forward for all concerned.

Firstly, we want to give surety that our goal is simple – we want Montrose Golf Links to not only survive its financial difficulties but emerge thereafter stronger than ever. Our commitment to this business and to you as our customers is of the upmost importance and is at the core of our decision-making process and we hope you will be by our side as we work through this challenging period.

As a first step in our recovery journey the existing board members for MGLL and Angus Council agreed that the best way forward is to introduce specialist skillsets into the business that can help pave our way to a secure future and we are delighted to introduce a new management board that has been formed to oversee the day to day running of the business and to help support and guide the company and staff to establish a solid business model that will see us adapt to life after Covid, diversify the business where possible and more importantly ensure our services are shaped around you, our customers.

Right now, we have no guarantees as to what the future holds for Montrose Golf Links. The golf sector has been hit hard over recent years and the recent pandemic has been a challenge greater than we could have imagined however we have great hope that with our new management structure and the wealth of experience, knowledge and skills they bring teamed with our existing board members and staff we will find a way to keep Montrose Golf Links alive and part of the Angus Community.

As a team we are extremely proud to be part of Montrose Golf Links, the 5th oldest golf course in the world surrounded by the most beautiful scenery and coastline and we know that you, our customers, are extremely proud to be part of that too.

In full consultation within Angus Council it was identified that the following skillsets would be required to form a strong management board:

*Legal

*Accountancy

*Golfing Acumen

*Commercial Background

*Business

*Marketing

 

We are delighted to introduce you to our new Management Team who bring with them the attributes listed above coupled with a huge passion for our business and a strong desire to help us move forward:

Alastair Donald

Former owner of The Astute Group with over 20 years’ experience as a Managing Director. Alastair recently sold the group and now dedicates his time to helping other businesses flourish using his past experiences. For five years Alastair was also Chairman of Forfar Athletic Football Club and is still a current director on the board as Vice Chairman.

Alastair has experience of supporting other boards across organisations at both a local and national level and he currently works as a freelance consultant for Business Gateway in Tayside and Grampian.

 

Christopher Doan

A Qualified Chartered Certified Accountant with over 30 years’ experience both within public practice and within industry. Christopher has worked within roles as Group Finance Director of a multi-million-pound construction group, Managing Director and Finance Director of an Aberdeen company providing support to the offshore oil industry and Partner of North East firm of Accountants.

In 2016 Christopher set up his own accountancy practice; Axiom Business Consultancy Limited, a dynamic independent firm of Chartered Certified Accountants providing professional accounting and business services to a wide range of clients both locally and within the UK.

 

Wayne Henderson

A professional engineer by background Wayne has over the past 20 years led a number of business strategic initiatives of significant scale both in the UK and internationally; supporting business transform and grow through efficient operations, diversification and creating a clear differentiation.

Wayne is currently managing director of Kaizah a digital transformation consultancy and a member on the board of Absafe a non for-profit safety awareness-training organisation.

Wayne is a dedicated member at Montrose Golf Links and has been since a junior golfer and is passionate about the success of the 5th oldest golf course in the world.

 

Hamish Watt

Following graduation from The University of Dundee and qualification as a solicitor, he was invited to join a Montrose legal firm and has been here ever since.

He formed his own legal company, Watts, in 1979, and provided legal services throughout Angus and beyond until semi-retirement in 2015 when his firm was acquired by Thorntons Law.

Hamish has an interest in business in general. He continues his involvement as a director in several local organisations, including Montrose Air Station Heritage Museum, Montrose Chamber of Commerce and as a director and board member of the Montrose Port Authority.

He has been Chair of several voluntary organisations in Montrose and is a past president of Montrose Rotary Club.

 

Jeff King

Born in Aberdeen, Montrose has been home since 2002. Jeff was an Electrical engineer for 19 years in Aberdeen and then set up his own business, KVA Limited in1998 which he then sold 2010.

Jeff retired in 2011 and is a keen golfer who wants to ensure Montrose Golf Links celebrates it’s 500th birthday.

 

As well as the management group named above, we still have executive directors from Angus Council and of course representation from both clubs.
